Together Forever

I am getting married in less than a week. Lord willing, there is a short timeline remaining on my singleness, and this has brought about unique pictures of Christ’s redemptive work on my behalf.  Engagement brings about a strong excitement and joy, and as marriage approaches my eagerness and passion builds. There is a joy being manifested in me that is strong and exciting, but it is only a small picture.

Imagine if we knew Jesus was coming back to earth in less than a week! If we believe the gospel by grace through faith, we would be ecstatic! Our preparation would not be to have our ducks in a row morally. We wouldn’t be frantically trying to stack up some last-minute good works to present to Christ for our own sake. We would be telling everyone about his coming out of pure excitement and joy; an overwhelming sensation of true love that is about to be culminated and fulfilled more deeply than ever. This truth is seen in the smallest scale picture through engagement and marriage, and this picture is not small because of the feelings involved. The feelings of longing are stronger than any I have experienced in my life, and the desire for oneness and excitement in its approaching are hardly containable. But these beautiful things are not worth comparing to the glory that will come with perfect communion with God!

There is a finite time of engagement, and the end is fully known. As it approaches, emotions are stirred, and preparations are made to lead to a more glorious celebration. May our preparations for the return of Christ, the one whom our soul loves (and the one we will truly be together with forever), be those that would lead to a more glorious celebration. That people would come to know His grace, that Christians would grow in love and wisdom, and that our Lord and Savior would be lifted high as we wait with eagerness and a joy that will grow exponentially into and through eternity.
